7th grade - Coed Social Dance!

We are having so much fun in our Coed Social Dance unit! We have learned the Macarena, the Cupid Shuffle, the Electric Slide, the Wild Wild West (partner dance) and the Virginia Reel. See the photo and video below!

HOMEWARD BOUND 5K FUN RUN!!

Would you like to do a Fun Run in the community and get PE credit for a mile run? Here is your chance! Homeward Bound 5K Fun Run is put on by two PUNAHOU ACADEMY STUDENTS! These girls (Tama and Maya) work very hard to put this run on and donate all of the proceeds to the IHS Homeless Shelter. It is an amazing feat and we are so proud of them. If you and/or your parents are able, please support their cause!

6th grade - Back to Field Sports

The Dance unit ended..for now...and we are back to the field! The girls had a blast with "Everybody's It", "SPUD", and "Speedball". After the holidays we will dance a few more days then play some fun games to end the quarter.

6th Grade Field Games

6th graders took a break from Intro to Dance and went up to the field...Day One we played Kickball (as an intro to other games) and then we ran the mile on Day Two...Today we played Speedball, which is a combination between Soccer and Team Handball - it was a very fun unit..Now, we go back to dance for 3 days and then back to the field for another mini session. More fun coming!

6th & 7th Grade Mile!

The girls all ran their 2nd mile run of the year...It was very HOT but everyone did a fantastic job! I am so proud of all of you - great job, keep it up!

7th grade - Indoor Floor Hockey

7th graders will be starting a new unit - Indoor Floor Hockey next class. We will teach the skills involved, do lead up games, and play Floor Hockey. More info and photos to come!

6th grade - Starting Intro to Dance Unit

6th graders will be starting a new unit..Intro to Dance. We have a specialist from the Punahou Dance school come to class and show us some basic dance moves...here we are:

6th and 7th grade "Health Lessons"

We took a break from physical activity to add a few Health lessons.
6th grade watched a DVD on Hygiene and Sun Safety. They answered questions related to the video as a follow up.
7th grade did a "Website Scavenger Hunt" where they used their laptops to search government approved websites regarding Teen Health issues. They filled in a worksheet with questions in regards to Nutrition, Exercise, Peer Pressure, and Puberty.
Next time, 6th grade will begin a Dance Unit and 7th grade will do indoor Floor Hockey!

6th and 7th grade Halloween FUN RUN!!

On Wed and Thurs, October 27th and 28th we all got into the Halloween Spirit and ran a Halloween Fun Run. This was a run around the track with various exercises in between the running..It was a social run with the opportunity to chat with friends and get exercise at the same time..BOO! Happy Halloween!!

6th grade Pickleball Unit

Yep, we have started our new unit - Pickleball! The game is a lot like tennis but a different paddle and ball and a smaller court. It was named Pickleball after the creators dog! (The dogs name was "Pickles" and he chased after the balls) We started the unit with relays, ball handling practice like "ups" and "downs" and a small practice game of Pickleball...More fun to come! *Check the link on the side of the blog to go to the official "Pickleball" website!

7th grade Team Handball Unit

We have officially started our Team Handball unit. We participated in ball handling relays, learned proper throwing & catching technique, and had fun with our throwing challenges...all to the beat of rockin' music. More Team Handball fun to come!

7th grade Tennis - Last Day!

Today was our last day of tennis. We learned the athletic stance, the continental grip, the forehand, parts of the court (baseline, service line) and much more. We played games, were given challenges, and ended the unit with "Tennis Baseball!" It was a great unit, and now we move on to Team Handball (after a Fitness day).

6th grade Football Finale!

The 6th graders have mastered the game of football! We know new terms such as "line of scrimmage", quarterback, center, and receiver. We can "run a play" after a huddle and know we have 4 downs to score a touchdown! We are football players! Great job girls...you have made me proud! *Fun game next, followed by Fitness day, then Pickle Ball.

6th & 7th Fitness/Cardio Day!

Yippee Girls! You did a great job on your first cardio/fitness day! We did a workout entitled "Intro to the track" which was an explanation of the track, track etiquette, and an interval workout. It was very hot out there and you all did a great job! Keep up the good work!

Flaming P - FRIDAY, SEPT 24TH!!



Flaming P is this Friday - the day begins with Football (YEAH, we can watch what we are learning) vs. Iolani after school - at Punahou. Then, there is a chili rice dinner and a pep rally in the gym - after that the traditional "flaming P" will occur! Try to make a plan to come, it's pretty fun and a big Punahou tradition!

7th grade - Tennis Fun!

The 7th grade girls have started their Tennis unit. We have learned the athletic stance, lateral and front/back movement as well as the "continental grip". We practiced volleying and playing mini tennis games. We are learning more and more each day. Hats and sunscreen would be great!

6th graders - Football Fever!!

The 6th grade classes have been learning football skills. We have covered throwing and catching and can even throw spirals! We have also captured how to hike the ball, go out for a pass, and move the line of scrimmage...Soon we will add the defense and play 4 on 4 games. The girls are having a blast...we have our touchdown dances down!

Welcome to the start of school! We spent the first few days of school learning our classroom expectations and developing community. We learned about Project Adventure and explored our rules through games.
