6th grade - Finished Track - Starting Swimming!

The 6th grade girls had a great time with the Track and Field Unit. It was short, but a great introduction to the sport and a few of the events. They participated in Long Jump, 50 meter dash, and the Softball Throw. We had a mini track meet where we scored our best times and distances; overall a terrific unit.

Today we started swimming! We are assessing where the girls are in terms of technique and endurance and will be working on the different strokes soon. We will work on Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and elements such as treading water and floating. It was a great first day!

7th Grade - Synchronized Swimming!

What a great unit! This is a unit that has been taught at Punahou School for many years. The girls have learned:
-The shark
-The collapsing clam
-The ballet leg
-Sculling and egg beater/treading water
-Fancy Arms and splashes
-The porpoise
-Entries
and more...
We also completed the 12 min endurance swim. The girls swam continuously for 12 minutes working on endurance and getting a different kind of workout - similar to running the mile. The did a fantastic job! Well done girls!

Next, we will be breaking into groups and beginning our routine development! More to come soon...

6th grade - Coming soon - Track & Field Unit

We did it! We learned the game of softball!! The unit began with Blastball to learn how to hit off the tee, then we played kickball to review and learn the rules of softball, and finally, we played softball - with gloves and everything! The girls have a basic understanding of the rules, game, and situation - where to throw the ball and when. It was a very rewarding unit with only a few with any background of softball - I am so proud of the girls, they did a great job!

Coming next - a mini Track & Field unit - 4 days of sprints, Long Jump, and Softball throw...

After that we will be switch to our swimming unit. Updates and photos coming soon!
